Transfer Information

Please read the following tips, and take advantage of the ISU Transit program at https://transit.iastate.edu/.  By taking the recommended courses and using the available resources, your transition to the ISU Psych program will be smoother and will facilitate timely graduation.

Planning to attend graduate or professional school?  The B.S. degree is the traditional academic route, and requires additional courses in Math and Natural Sciences beyond the ISU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education requirements.  Completion of a minor is optional.

For students planning other careers, the B.A. degree is another academic option.  Completion of a minor is required.

Students must meet the ISU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Foreign Language requirement of three years of the same high school foreign language or one year of a college foreign language.  This may also be satisfied with a 102 level or higher equivalent.

A minimum grade of C- in Psych 101 and Stat 101 is required for an ISU Psychology degree.

Even though ISU does “use” transfer grades to verify minimum grade requirements, transfer grades do not factor into the ISU GPA.
NOTE OF CAUTION:  If you take a course at ISU and do poorly, taking it at another institution will not affect your ISU GPA.  While ISU will look at grades from transfer courses to assure standards are met for courses with minimum grade requirements, grades from other institutions will not affect your Iowa State GPA.  This includes credits re-taken at other institutions after you’ve taken them at ISU; a better grade there will not overwrite your ISU grade unless it is needed to do so to meet minimum requirements.
