Contextual Effects on African American Adolescents’ Health Risk
Behavior
Along with colleagues
at the University
of Georgia, we are
looking at contextual factors that influence African American adolescents’
health behavior. In particular, we will examine neighborhood factors, including
substance availability, crime rates, percentage African American families
living in the neighborhood, and availability of social services as moderators
of the relations between protective factors (e.g., good parenting, education)
and problem behaviors.
