What we do in the lab:

Many experiments in the lab examine word perception and recognition. We have investigated this using repetition blindness and orthographic priming experiments. Repetition blindness (RB) is the phenomenon that occurs when a repeated letter, word, or picture is shown and often results in the participant's inability to report both occurrences of the item. Priming is also used to explore contextual influences on word recognition.

We pursue a variety of projects apart from word recognition. One line of research investigates the autonomic response to familiarity. The goal is to better understand the subjective feeling of familiarity. Another line of research explores top-down influence on human perception.
